“If You Can’t Breathe, You Can’t Function.”
Recently, I completed a 3 day course by Dr. Mary Massery all about breathing. What does breathing have to do with pelvic floor rehab? Think of a soda pop can; it’s a closed system. The carbonation>atmospheric pressure, which creates functional strength for the weak external can. The soda can be easily crushed if the top of the can is open. The soda can is an analogy to our core. The vocal folds are on top, Pelvic Floor is on the bottom, and the Diaphragm divides the can into the Thoracic and Abdominal cavity. Think about how Pelvic Floor weakness, or Diastasis Rectus Abdominis are potential crushes in your core can! Come learn how to breathe in order to create, maintain, and regulate proper pressure in your core with one of our skilled physical therapists.
